A bumper corn harvest, that's what.
Fueled by the ethanol boom, corn prices are at a historic high, and there's more corn fields flanking the highways than I have ever seen before.
My dad, who prognositcates the weather like its his job, predicts an open winter. The corn on the husk is unraveling, which is a sure sign of a warm temps through the cold months. However, in SD, that probably just means 0 degrees as opposed to 30 degrees below zero.
This giant mound is actually a food source, disguised as a natural resource. It's a sandy beach, it's a tractor testing ground... no, it's corn silage! Meant to be fed to cattle and then to humans. Mmmmm burgers!

Yes Andrea, I have been predicting the weather around these parts for a good long time. My track record speaks for itself: about 90% accuaracy rate, 50% of the time.Dad
