Spelunking

Caves, castles, labyrinths -- we are truly in a city of majestically varied proportions. Yesterday, in our zest to see Budapest's treasures, we trekked all over the city, crossing its famous Chain Bridge and visiting not one, but two full out castles. Unbelievable. The most amazing adventure of our day, however, involved a complete change of role; we fled the city's hot streets and moved underground, spelunking the castle labyrinths.



Some of us may remember a computer game in grade school, modeled after the popular Carmen Sandiago television show. We were told to ask, "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiago" by Rockapella and then become involved in the search for her geographic whereabouts.



Of the many employment options for those in hot pursuit of her on the game was spelunking, and ever since this first encounter with the art of cave exploration, I've always wanted to try my hand at the real thing. Yesterday was our chance to do just that. In an hour of exploration, ranging from checking out the cavernous walls to taking pictures of the underground stonework, we exploring every crevice of those caves. There are some discrepancies within the group as to whether the caves were ancient, or created recently in a move designed to grab innocent tourists' dollars. I'm a believer, however, I think they were ancient and we were brave for exploring them. :)
